Toronto hip-hop artist Ekko Effect releases his debut album Knowledge Speaks, Wisdom Listens for free download this Friday, November 18, 2011. After notable features on Just Rap tracks “Past Due (Remix),” “Raise It Up” and “Goin’ In For The Kill,” Ekko Effect looks to establish his own identity and show exactly what he is made of on this full length album. Ekko has different goals than most rappers who chase money and fame, he’s hoping to use hip-hop to uplift his community and share his truth, a message of pain, love
and hope.
On KSWL he employs a mix of energy, lyrical dexterity, passion and sonic excellence, with beats crafted by a host of talented young producers, including All Arounda Beats, Dough Music, E. Brooks, Heavyweight Beats, Nomadic Soul, Sinima Beats and Sol Kidd. He also features Winners Circle teammates L and Newz and several Toronto artists he respects, including MCs Rez Raida, Phoenix Pagliacci and Proverbs and R&B
newcomer Thea Monroe.
For the album’s first official single, also named “Knowledge Speaks, Wisdom Listens,” Ekko sets a positive tone for the album over a soulful, up-tempo beat by Nomadic Soul, laying out his journey, his story, his goals and his dreams without leaving out the hard truths about the reality of the male experience in Toronto. Other standout tracks include the schizophrenic “Retaliating Conscience,” the bassy, danceable “Rock a Bye Baby,” the fun, bouncy “3 Wise Men” and the sonically and lyrically introspective “True Lies.”
After the June 2011 release of Winners Circle crewmate L’s Just Rap mix tape and ahead of long time friend and group mate Bad Newz’s upcoming Dirty English mix tape, Ekko’s KSWL is part of a Winners Circle threesome of full-length projects that will establish the crew as contenders in Toronto’s mushrooming hip-hop scene.
Ekko Effect and Winners Circle Music will celebrated the release of KSWL on Thursday, November 17 at the College Street Bar at 574 College St. in Toronto.

Thee Questions

UTW-Who am you?
Ekko Effect-Ekko Effect
Toronto emcee who is not your typical post-new school rapper chasing big bucks, European cars and R&B chicks. I am here hoping to use hip-hop to give a voice to those that wouldn’t have one otherwise, and shine a light on the struggles that the people of today’s society face.

UTW-What is your Passion:
Ekko Effect-Ekko is passionate about improving himself and his community and it is evident in the topics he tackles in his songs. I also has bigger goals than music and plans on one day opening a community arts centre where kids can learn to read and write, play instruments and work toward their career goals.

UTW-What’s your biggest accomplishment to date?
Ekko Effect-I would definitely have to say my kids, they complete me in a way I never thought possible, also the completion of my Social worker diploma. I just finished my first mixtape, titled Knowledge Speaks, Wisdom Listens, furthering his goal to better the lives of others through music.
He is slowly and surely making a name for himself in the hip-hop arena; most recently contributing fiery 16’s to crewmate L’s “Past Due (Remix)” and the Black History Month anthem “Time Is Now” featuring Phoenix Pagliacci, L, Proverbs and Brian Notice. He’s moved the crowd in several recent live performances, sharing stages with prominent Canadian artists like D-Sisive and Fresh Kils and fellow Winners Circle members L, Bad Newz and DJ Smartiez.

UTW-Perseverance is key in proving to yourself AND any detractors out there. We tell em’ “You thought wrong” what else would you like to say to any doubters right now?
Ekko Effect-Life is short and even though we all make mistakes, no mistake is too big to ever come back from. There’s nothing wrong with making mistakes, we all do, what’s wrong is letting it stay as a mistake without the effort of making it right.

UTW-Thanks for everything, where can people find your work and get in contact with you?
