Neil Austen brings us up close and personal with this dope video of the Toronto holiday edition of The Cypher. The way this video is shot makes you feel part of the whole night, even making you feel as you were there the whole night as well. He incorporate’s everything from beginning to end. Check out the ill artist Neil got yo film at the last Cypher.

UTW-Who are you?
Neil Austen-Neil Austen.
A 22 year old cinematographer from Toronto, Ont.
Used to be a frontman for a metal band. I moved to Toronto and was introduced to ‘Atmosphere’. That’s where the journey into Hip Hop began.

UTW-What is your passion?
Neil Austen-Life: uncut, unabridged in living colour.
We all want to remembered, but I just want to remember. I’m passionate about documenting what happens in the world. Journalism would be a close second to cinematography. It’s the ability to tell a personal narrative, a written account of life-changing events.
Music: Digging in the crates, all day, every day. The golden era of beats, breaks, and rhymes.

UTW-What’s your biggest accomplishment to date?
Neil Austen-Joining up with the H3 Crew and The Cypher.
The holiday edition of the Cypher. Shot and edited entirely by my own hands. I feel it truly represents the raw essence of hip hop.

UTW-Perseverance is key in proving to yourself AND any detractors out there. We tell em’ “You thought wrong” what else would you like to say to any doubters right now?
Neil Austen-Stand your ground and I’ll prove you wrong.

UTW-Thanks for everything, where can people find your work and get in contact with you?
Neil Austen-You can find my demo reel and alternative videos at
Facebook: Neil Austen (ryerson university)
