When I heard these two dope but very different viriations to tribute J Dilla through these porducers beats, I had to post them. Check out Kab Love and Hi Rock’s beats and their Thght Process below.
First we have Kab Love with Dunkin’
Secondly we have Hi Rock with Toronto Love Jay.
UTW-Who are you?
Kab Love– I’m kab love aka kab aka killa kab lol
Hi-Rock-The name is Francis also known as Hi-Rock a.k.a The Student of the Boom-Bap!
UTW-What is your passion?
Kab Love– My passion is to make music that can be listened to years from now and still have the same effect as when you first heard it and know that its from the heart music, I just try to make whatever I feel I’m supposed to make whether it be a track sampling some old curtis mayfield or david ruffin or some new trunk shaking lex luger type beat. I always make what sounds good to me and what my mind and heart tells me to make. Sounds corny I know but thats just the way I do things.
Hi-Rock-Music is my passion…started joining dance competitions when I was young, which then made me intrigued on how to mix music, because the music we were dancing to was pre-mixed and mashed, I taught myself how to do that. YouTube wasn’t around for tutorials then so the things i learned was pretty basic. I knew I needed to have the proper education. I started my internship as a recording engineer at Bunker 8 Digital Labs…learned a lot from that experience. The transition to becoming a Beat Maker is just natural…and all the experience I gained will help me in my future endeavors.
UTW-What’s your biggest accomplishment to date?
Kab Love– My biggest accomplishment would probably be making and releasing my very first mixtape by myself in the tenth grade. A Different World, was me fully going into the hip hop game full speed and deciding it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It was a huge deal to me because I made everything myself. All recorded in my room with a apex 181 usb mic by me, all the artwork and most of the beats. The fact that I had a full project released independently that early was big. It felt great and still does.
Hi-Rock-Having your music played in countries like Singapore…who would’ve thought that with music I can connect with them despite the cultural differences. The Weekly Beat Sessions has helped me connect with fellow beatsmiths from the diff parts of the world and has helped me to always improve not each month or year..but each week I have to come up with something hot! Shouts to my WBS Family. The biggest accomplishment to date though is probably helping my man Jaff complete his first album.
UTW-Perseverance is key in proving to yourself AND any detractors out there. We tell em’ “You thought wrong” what else would you like to say to any doubters right now?
Kab Love– I’d simply tell the doubters to just stay tuned. If you don’t like what you hear right now you will eventually like something I’m going to make. At least I hope so. And if you choose not to listen at all then I would say that your missing out.
Hi-Rock-To all the doubters and haters, I welcome you..without the doubters and the haters I wouldn’t be working as hard. It keeps me going as a person and at improving on my craft. So Thank You! it’s all Love
