UTW-Who are you?
Kassandra T-Kassandra T, most people just call me Kassie or tend to make up other nicknames for me. Born and raised in Toronto, background is Jamaican. I am an Artist.
UTW-What is your passion?
Kassandra T-My passion? Well I have lots. I want to make art that just isn’t “pretty”, a lot of my work these last couple of months have been stories and characters I made up. My main focus is photography and I’ve been looking into a lot of photographers such as Floria Sigismondi, Janieta Eyre, Steven Klein. There are a lot of commercial and editorial photographers now, especially now that it is readily accessible to get a DSLR and any equipment. I just don’t want everyone getting sucked into making the same photos over and over. There’s no originality. I’m just starting to tap into my own style and it feels great once I can really dive into it. I always say a photo has to tell the viewer something and go past the point of just being a beauty shot.
UTW-What’s your biggest accomplishment to date?
Kassandra T-Well I’m proud of myself for putting my work up in shows outside of a school environment, and just having the confidence that I can do it. Also moving away from the standard beauty and editorial shots. No one has really seen my new stuff, not ready to show it until the series is finished, but it’ll be worth it.
UTW-Perseverance is key in proving to yourself AND any detractors out there. We tell em’ “You thought wrong” what else would you like to say to any doubters right now?
Kassandra T-I don’ t fixate on people who don’t like my work or think I don’t have talent. In the visual art world you get use to people critiquing your work. I don’t mind constructive criticism, thats how I grow and develop by getting feedback from peers and other people I know that have a valid opinion. I have developed a tough enough skin to not worry about all that.
everything, where can people find your work and get in contact with you?
Kassandra T-Right now you can see my work here: kassandratomlinson.tumblr.com or kassiet.tumblr.com or www.flickr.com/photos/kassandrat or shoot me an email firstname.lastname@example.org
