Niki & Lola [Jewelry Designer]
Niki & Lola, a collection of one-of-a-kind, hand-soldered jewellery in mixed metals and semi-precious stones, is co-founded by Angie Tingas and Michael Proteau. It is named after their daughters, and inspired by how little girls (much like parents) are so uniquely different. Sophia Niki likes things that are pretty and delicate, and is sophisticated yet a perfectionist at heart. Alexia Lola is jovial, smart and funny, always raring to go, and independent to a fault.
Take a look at a few pieces from Niki & Lola and their Thght Process Interview below. Be sure to check out their site.
UTW-Who are you?
Niki & Lola-We are Angie Tingas and Michael Proteau and together we make up Niki & Lola. For those who don’t know that is the name of our Handmade in Toronto jewellery label.
UTW-What is your passion?
Niki & Lola–Mike- My passion is being creative and working with my hands.
Angie– Ohhh tough question… I am a Fashion Trend nerd, I like to create and idea what will be trendy. My girls are my world and they inspire me to make more of myself.
UTW-What’s your biggest accomplishment to date?
Niki & Lola–Mike– Other than my family and kids…
Angie– Just launching, when you have plans to go big or go home which has been our motto in the office, trying to accomplish that is a hard feat to pull off. We definetly psyched ourselves out and disbelieved how close we were getting to launching, and I even had a good cry the night before our launch – Just launching, when you have plans to go big or go home which has been our motto in the office, trying to accomplish that is a hard feat to pull off. We definetly psyched ourselves out and disbelieved how close we were
getting to launching, and I even had a good cry the night before our launch. This has been my baby in the works for 4 years and I have never been more proud of it. So launching it is huge for me.
Mike– I am just so proud of the positive feedback we are getting, it’s our art. Scutiny is scary, putting yourself and your product out there is scary. So getting positive feedback is like a good pat on the back.
UTW-Perseverance is key in proving to yourself AND any detractors out there. We tell emâ “You thought wrong” what else would you like to say to any doubters right now?
Niki & Lola–Mike- You ain’t see nothing yet!
Angie– I’m going to show you how it’s done, and I am going to do it with class even if you don’t understand. People don’t believe someone Canadian can make a statement in the industry. We have a bum rap for not getting the attention of NY. Our markets are little and well your friends don’t register that you are about to go for broke. I have read and read and read again about doing this… we plan on making a mark and staying the course. There is no giving up on this.
UTW-Thanks for everything, where can people find your work and get in contact with you?
Niki & Lola-We have an e-commerce site www.nikiandlola.com but you can also pick up our pieces at The Devil’s Workshop at 890 Queen St. W. Other than that we are a bit social media crazy, you can find us at www.facebook.com/nikiandlola on twitter and Instagram we are @nikiandlola
