SATISFACTION…

2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EDITION!!!

We’re celebrating two strong years of rocking parties, causing a ruckus and giving out free candy at College Street Bar. Over the past year we’ve featured guest DJs from Los Angeles (MisterMike) and Brooklyn (Dr. Faust), plus served lineups of some of Toronto’s finest, with DJ MelBoogie, James Redi, DJ Soundbwoy and Punjaycan all sharing the booth with SATISFACTION resident Sanga Genesis.

Since our last anniversary, we brought J-Com on board as co-host and presenter with the Uthghtwrng.com brand. We catered to jam packed crowds by spinning hip hop, soul, pop, r&b, rock and beyond for a truly unique vibe. We said hello to our new mascot, Bozo the Clown. Caribana rolled around and we turned the College strip into an island destination. Sanga’s birthday was one for the ages, the same night we teamed up with Hercules to give out Online Pokies a Online Pokies DJ console to one lucky partygoer.

As we enter year three of our musical journey, we’ve solidified a 1-2 punch of DJs Sanga Genesis and James Redi on the 1’s & 2’s. Host Crossword is still stylishly regulating the party while rocking his captain’s hat. J-Com is still kicking his funky fresh moves on the dance floor. And Lauren is still greeting you with that million dollar smile. See when you’re at a SATISFACTION party, you’re family. So come spend November 17th with the crew serving you satisfaction at the corner of College and Manning.

The last place any artist wants to be is in a box. Four groups who stand against all things cube shaped are combining forces at this year’s NXNE Festival on Saturday, June 16th at the Velvet Underground. Montreal/Toronto-based Ain’t No Love are two emcees (1990 & Beanz), a singer (Saidah Conrad) and a producer (Love Thy Brother) who have taken their hip hop/soul/dubstep mash-up to the world stage, having rocked Halifax Pop Explosion, POP Montreal, and SXSW all in the past year. Toronto hip-hop-funk-rock band Vibonics are a six-piece fronted by singer-emcee combo Kubota and Crossword, who recently completed a western Canadian tour to follow their showcase at Canadian Music Week. Clear Soul Forces are a hip hop power quartet that represent D-town to the fullest – their recent album Detroit #REVOlutions encompasses everything organic about pure lyricism, “creating a combination of golden era, 21st century, backpack and sub-woofer rap hip hop music all while paying boisterous attention to their beat selection.” theflow are relative newcomers on the scene, but have been making waves with a series of cover videos that showcase the versatility of the 9-piece Toronto soul hop gang. Catch these four acts before they catch fire!

WHAT: NXNE Presents: Ain’t No Love, Vibonics, Clear Soul Forces & theflow
WHERE: The Velvet Underground – 510 Queen St. West just east of Bathurst St.
WHEN: Saturday, June 16th, 2012
TIME: Doors 7pm, Show 8pm

Jeru the Damaja
Born in Brooklyn, New York, hip hop emcee Jeru the Damaja aka the Dirty Rotten Scoundrel wrote his first rap lyrics at the age of ten. He began working with now world renowned DJ Premier and Guru (Gang Starr) in the late 1980s, and released his album The Sun Rises in the East (produced exclusively by DJ Premier), which is widely acclaimed as one of the best hip hop albums of all time. Known for his “hardcore conscious” style of rap, Jeru released The Wrath of the Math in 1996, earning him the title of “the saviour of hip-hop” by many due to his honest and straightforward critique of the state of hip-hop music and culture. He has since released three more albums and toured extensively and consistently throughout the United States, Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa. Between tours, he has collaborated with Grammy nominated UK group Groove Armada, DJ Cut Killa, French actor Doudou Masta, Japan’s DJ Honda, and Polish hip hop group Slums Attack.
Jeru the Damaja is currently working on a collaborative album featuring some of the best hip hop music producers and emcees from Poland and the United States, and his sixth official solo album is in the works.
