I am a strong believer in the saying “When the needle drops, the bullshit stops.” and this couldn’t have been any truer when I took in  Bolivian born electronic DJ and Producer, Daniel Alejandro Barrientos for the first time. Mr. Barrientos is also known on the dancefloor by two other monikers, Undergroundroots and Devius.  Daniel began his production journey in his late teens and has been going in ever since. Influenced in the beginning by mostly rock and hip hop, in his mid-20’s Devius began spinning electronic beats and from that began producing in the genre as well.

Undergroundroots  dropped a track called Cojelo this month. I gave it a listen and it was precisely what I needed to hear with this cold weather on the way. It’s always nice to hear an earthy South American influence (percussion and vocals) on electronic tracks. The build up is well calculated, not too long, not too short, just right. Then when the beat does drops, it drops deep and funky.

Check out Devius’ bandcamp www.under-ground-roots.bandcamp.com for more tracks as well as his culture blog www.undergroundroots.ca. I hope all of you enjoy Cojelo as much as I do.

UTW: Perseverance is key in proving to yourself AND any detractors out there. We tell em’ “You thought wrong” what else would you like to say to any doubters right now?
