UTW-Who are you?
J Shiltz-I am J Shiltz, a Sauga City/Toronto based hip-hop artist.

UTW-What is your passion?
J Shiltz-My passion lies within the lyrical elements of hip-hop… verses, songs, features, hooks, rocking stages. Any opportunity to showcase my talent is fully embraced. There is nothing that can compare to that feeling you get after absolutely crushing a verse or tearing it down live on stage.

UTW-What’s your biggest accomplishment to date?
J Shiltz-At this point I would have to say that my biggest accomplishment to date has been the release of my debut album What I Stand For. But allow me to elaborate; the release of the project in itself encompasses many smaller but equally important accomplishments. The track “Louder” won placement on the Stylus Whose Got Next CD in 2010. Both Gimme That Flow 1 & 2 had accompanying music videos featured on MuchVibe. Not even to speak of the production values and features on the album, which are in themselves accomplishments.

UTW-Perseverance is key in proving to yourself AND any detractors out there. We tell em’ “You thought wrong” what else would you like to say to any doubters right now?
J Shiltz-I would like to thank them. I want to thank them for doubting me, underestimating me, and dismissing the movement I have built. A lot of people just kind of laughed me off, like oh this dude isn’t hard, or this dude isn’t backpack, you know people didn’t like the fact that I wasn’t conforming to industry standards of artistry, they didn’t like the idea that I could be an artist unto myself. That kind of thing can be rough on a lot of artists trying to make their mark, but for me personally it has just served as an incentive to go harder.

UTW-Thanks for everything, where can people find your work and get in contact with you?

J Shiltz-Absolutely! Shouts to J Com for facilitating this interview. For anybody interested in listening to my music they need to look no further than jshiltz.bandcamp.com my debut album is available for free download from that link as well as a little mixtape I did about a year ago titled “A Dozen Donuts” (my tribute to Dilla). For anyone who wants to get in contact with me be it regarding collaborations, beat submissions, event bookings, and things of that nature, just email johnshiltz@gmail.com

Ever listen to a song rapped to a girl, and wonder if the girl was even into it? Crossword keeps that in mind and manages to have some fun while spitting a little game. After dropping some witty and humorous bars aimed at seducing a fine senorita, he ends the proposition with a simple question – “What U Wanna Do?” Featuring production by Junia-T of the Smash Brovaz, the laid back beat is designed to have you – and her – in a nice groove for all 3 minutes and 22 seconds. “What U Wanna Do” is the first single from Crossword’s upcoming Different Light EP.
The opening track from Crossword’s upcoming EP of the same name – Different Light, set for release March 21st, 2013 – doesn’t take long to get to the substance. Delivering a lyrical attack loaded with passionate rawness, Different Light is more than an introduction – it’s a stand. Featuring Crossword’s Vibonics bandmate Alfred Chow on a guitar solo to close out the tune, Different Light aims to leave a definitive impression on all listening in.
Different Light EP, set to release on March 21st, 2013.

Check out the two new tracks as we await the EP to drop later in March, also check out Crosswords Thght Process Interview below.
